This… is a game? This is a game. This first look at the upcoming Star Wars Outlaws is astonishingly cinematic, and introduces a new scoundrel, Kay Vess, who’s about to take on one dangerous job that might set her up for the rest of her life.

But first: a lot of running and shooting and flying and also the help of her extremely cute little alien friend, Nix. Also, there’s a commando droid in a trenchcoat.

Set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the JediOutlaws is diving into the world of the galaxy’s crime syndicates, which appear in Solo and The Clone Wars and plenty of other Star Wars properties. The synopsis is not enormously forthcoming:

Explore distinct planets across the galaxy, both iconic and new. Risk it all as Kay Vess, an emerging scoundrel seeking freedom and the means to start a new life, along with her companion Nix. Fight, steal, and outwit your way through the galaxy’s crime syndicates as you join the galaxy’s most wanted.

The game comes from Ubisoft, Massive Entertainment, and Lucasfilm Games, and little is known about it—including what the gameplay will be like. At StarWars.com, Massive Entertainment’s creative director, Julian Gerighty, said vaguely but promisingly, “With the Galactic Empire on the heels of the Rebel Alliance, and the criminal underworld thriving, an outlaw like Kay Vess has a whole galaxy of opportunity in front of her.”

Star Wars Outlaws will be out in 2024 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
